چکیده

Angola has experienced an incredible increase of the knowledge its herpetofauna over past decade. However, accurate biodiversity inventories remain deficient for certain regions particular conservation interest. We therefore provide updated checklist Iona National Park’s herpetofauna, with 75 recorded species, including five amphibians and 70 reptiles, 40 these first time in Park. These species comprise ~80% reptile diversity Namibe Province. Therefore, this work recognises Park as most reptile-diverse protected area is potentially one richest southern Africa. Consequently, enhances importance specific plans need further investigation into hidden region.

Effects of groundwater abstraction on two keystone tree species in an arid savanna national park

BACKGROUND In arid systems with no surface water, deep boreholes in ephemeral river beds provide for humans and animals. With continually increasing infrastructure development for tourism in arid wildlife parks such as the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in southern Africa, we ask what effects increased abstraction may have on large trees. Large trees in arid savannas perform essential ecosystem s...

Legionella species diversity in an acidic biofilm community in Yellowstone National Park.

Legionella species are frequently detected in aquatic environments, but their occurrence in extreme, acidic, geothermal habitats has not been explored with cultivation-independent methods. We investigated a predominately eukaryotic algal mat community in a pH 2.7 geothermal stream in Yellowstone National Park for the presence of Legionella and potential host amoebae. Our analyses, using PCR amp...
